Last week’s trip to the Farmer’s Market netted this veritable cornucopia of produce. I paid $8.00. At Walmart, the four bell peppers alone would have set me back  $7.44! Thank you  to Johnson’s Produce for their discount box.

This week’s overflowing pile of vegetables was a whopping $9.70. That’s a lot of money to me, but not really too bad for 29 items. And the cost of 11 bell peppers at Walmart would be $24.80! I’d much rather pay 33c each.

This vintage footstool has seen better days. Instead of throwing it out and buying a new one, I’m just giving this one a new life.

To cover it, I’m using corduroy. You can use any heavy fabric like denim, drapery fabric, canvas, etc. You need a piece of fabric that is at least a couple inches bigger than the top plus the depth of the sides. This was a remnant that only cost a couple dollars.

You need a few simple supplies: a hammer, some small nails and a pair of scissors.

Lay out the fabric, wrong side up. Place the footstool on it like so.

Fold up an edge and start hammering!

I started with one nail on each of the four sides. Then, I turned the footstool over to make sure my stripes were lined up. Then I started working my way out from the middle to the corners.

When you get to the corner, make a pleat or fold that looks nice to you and nail in place. Cut away the excess fabric.

The finished footstool should look something like this.

Place it in your room and enjoy!

This set of gnomes caught my eye, but I thought $25 was robbery. I had just bought three at Goodwill for Michael’s Christmas present – for $3!

I bought a pound of turkey and pastrami from Hiatt’s Poultry. This is all natural, free range, no chemicals, preservatives or hormones. And it’s only $4.50 a pound. Cheaper than processed!

I also bought some headcheese to try. Not quite sure how I feel about it yet…

Bought some marinated olives from Oh Mamma’s Italian Deli. Oh Mamma, I will never buy cheap olives in a jar ever again. This 1/3 pound only set me back $1.70.

Some Brussels sprouts from Johnson’s Produce and sesame seeds and minced onion from Coffee and Tea Thyme rounded out my meager purchases.

Unfortunately, Freestone Ornamental Cement was closed. But I spied this whimsical garden stone under their booth cover. I hope it’s there next week!

This cute and comfy pair of pink shoes are almost new! They are made of the same material as Crocs and are a size 8. Only $2!

I’m not sure where this was used, but it was filthy and odoriferous! (A thorough cleaning with Mr. Clean with Febreeze remedied that.)

I wish I had room for this one my desk. I could finally get organized! I think I will repaint it (it’s currently in the style of “Ye Olde Garage”), make a cushion and use it as a footstool with storage. It can house all the remotes, magazines, notepads, pens, etc that always get left laying around.

Now, let’s see how long it takes me to actually do it!

I am the coupon queen!

I “friended” Fig Newtons and Wheat Thins, then was able to print off $1.00 coupons. Since CVS had small boxes on sale for $1.00 I got two boxes of each free!

The two bags of Lay’s are regularly $2.98, price matched to $1.99, minus two $1.00 off coupons, making them 99¢ each.

The two Lunchable subs are regularly $1.58 each, price matched to $1.00 each, minus two 75¢ off coupons, making them 25¢ each.

The fifteen Vitamin waters are regularly $1.18 each, price matched to 3/$1.00, minus five $1.00/2 coupons making them all FREE!

The four Sunkist tuna pouches are regularly $1.49 each, price matched to $1.oo each, minus 2 $1.00/2 coupons making them 50¢ each.

The mixed nuts are regularly $3.98, price matched to $1.99.

The Reese’s Dark Peanut Butter Cups are regularly 64¢, on sale  for 50¢, minus two 55¢ coupons making them negative 5¢ each.

My total should have been $37.88. I paid $6.27!

Michael found two books: one on pirates and the other a novelization of the tv mini-series “Taken” (75¢ each). I found the Harry Potter pillow for his office ($2.00). Michael and I each found a chick fiction book for me (75¢ each). A Candies top with a red tag (75%off) cost me $1.25. A ceramic Hobbit house for Michael to paint was $2.00. The two muffin tins were 50¢ each. Michael found the collection of four 80s pins for 50¢.The lovely background is a Vera scarf that cost $1.00.

I teased Michael that it would take a year for him to paint this Hobbit house. Can we live there?

Michael knows this 80s girl so well. He found this four pack of buttons (complete with foil wrapped chocolate hearts that went straight into the trash) next to the register. The box was marked with the ridiculously low price of 50¢.

My total after coupon was $6.50: a great price for this trip. However, a notice on the door announced that after April 1st coupons can only be used on regular priced items. If I come across another coupons I’ll use it on housewares or books (two categories that rarely go on sale), but I won’t use them on clothing as the sale prices are so much better.

This was a good way to spend an hour with my dear hubby on a dim and drizzly Sunday afternoon.
