Michael had to work today. He and I have both had Sundays off in the (almost) ten years we’ve been together. Weird to be home when he’s not. But thankful for the income.
I watched “Reality Bites” free from “On Demand” movies. Probably my fiftieth viewing. It made me nostalgic for the 90s. Does that date me?
I called Michael half and hour before he was to leave work. He answered. I was going to leave a voice mail! Asked him to pick up a Coke Slurpee on the way home. Still battling the remnants of bronchitis and my throat gets sore from coughing. When he came come he handed me the Slurpee. Uh, my straw? “No straws. You’ll have to eat it with a spoon.” My mind reeled. No. Can’t. Must. Have. Pink spoon straw. He pulled a pink spoon straw out of his bag with a smile. “Oh, you know me so well.” I’ve only used pink straws for Slurpees forever. What a good husband.
Kroger had leg quarters for $4.90 per ten pound bag this week. So I had 11 leg quarters to butcher, wrap in waxed paper and freeze. The thighs are for meals, the drumsticks will be used for soup. Can’t beat 22ยข a piece. Marinated 4 thighs with Spicy BBQ rub. I get sick of carbs: mashed potatoes, fries, rice, noodles. I decided our side dish would be veggies. I sauteed cabbage, onion, celery, and broccoli in light margarine with an herb and pepper blend. Was so flavorful and yummy.
I bought a hair straightener yesterday. Today I attempted to straighten my corkscrew curls. Did not work! My hair came out flattish and frizzy on top and still curly underneath. Am I “unstraightenable”?
I baked an apple pie today. Apples came out great, but the crust was just mediocre. What did I do wrong?
Why do work days go by so slowly and days off so quickly? Oh, yeah, because I spend the day cleaning, walking the dog, butchering chicken, making pie and packing lunches. I do more work at home then when I am at work!
