My Bento Lunch for 2/5 Posted by samaree

DSCF2485

Top: orange segments

Middle: mini meatball “drumsticks”; steamed carrots; corn

Bottom: Greek green bean rice pilaf (rice, tomatoes, green beans, oregano, garlic and pepper)

Michael, his brother, Matt, their mom, Lavon, and I went to the Farmer’s Market Tuesday. I restrained myself and only bought 6 pounds of bruised tomatoes. Half of them got cooked down (see stewed tomatoes in dish above) and half went into the fridge. Johnson’s has the best produce in town, but there’s still something lacking in a winter tomato. Is it summer yet?

My Bento Lunch for 2/3 Posted by samaree

The debut of the bento set!

DSCF2483

Top (which is actually the middle tier): spinach, rice, turkey and gravy (I mixed this together and found my new favorite dish.)

Middle (which is the bottom tier): corn, tomato balloons and cottage cheese

Bottom (which is the top – got that?): halved grapes

Although this seemed like a small meal, I just made me realize I’ve been packing way too much food in my makeshift bento boxes. This should help with the portion control I need to get my weight back down to a comfortable level.

I Have Real Bento! Posted by samaree

Northern Indiana does not have a large concentration of Asian people and, while there are Asian markets, they only stock food. I’ve been looking at bento boxes online for awhile and finally broke down and ordered some. I used jbox.com. They have a large, constantly changing inventory of fun, cheap bento items. The most expensive item I ordered was only $4.00. Here’s a pic:

Easy Turnip and Spinach Soup Posted by samaree

I decided to make two new soups to stash in the freezer for lunches. Since I had a bag of turnips to use up, I came up with this one.

White Florentine Pasta Bake Posted by samaree

Michael is passionately opposed to lasagna relating to an aunt’s repeated preparation of it. Instead of calling this recipe lasagna, I named it  pasta bake. I was busted, however, when Michael saw the box of lasagna noodles on the counter.
